An exchange between Javed Akhtar (India) and Javed Jabbar (Pakistan).

On 25th July 2015, in Kolkata, India, Mr. Shekhar Basu Roy, Editor in Chief of the journal "New Approach" hosted a seminar on : "India-Pakistan--- the way forward".

Indian participants were :

Salman Khurshid, former Foreign Minister.
Mani Shankar Aiyar, MP, former Petroleum Minister.
Satyabrata Paul, former Indian High Commissioner in Pakistan.
Javed Akhtar, MP, Rajya Sabha and poet/lyricist.
Seshadri Chari, Chief of the Foreign Affairs Cell, BJP.


Pakistan participants were :

Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, former Foreign Minister.
Senator (r) Javed Jabbar, former Federal Minister.
Senator Taj Haider, senior PPP leader.
Babar Ayaz, senior journalist and author.


The seminar was moderated by Bharat Bhushan, Editor, on-line Catch News, India.

A large number of prominent citizens of Kolkata attended.

Each participant presented observations for about 10 to 15 minutes.

The predominant content--- with only one or two exceptions ! --- was friendly and re-conciliatory.

After all 8 speakers spoke, there was a Q&A session.

With reference to certain remarks about Pakistan made by Javed Akhtar (India) and a comment by an attendee, Senator (r) Javed Jabbar (Pakistan) requested time for a Right to Reply.

There was no further response or discussion after the Right of Reply was completed.

The evening concluded on a warm and cordial note, with a musical concert and dinner.
