Re-elected Regional Councillor, West Asia (2008-2012) and re-elected global Vice President, (2008-2012).IUCN-International Union for Conservation of Nature, the only forum in which States/governments, over 1000 NGOs and over 10,000 scientists from around the world are co-members and associates. Founding president, Baanhn Beli (a friend forever), (1985) working in over 400 remote villages of the Tharparkar arid region for the past 27 years in girls education, water resources, health care, training and micro-credit. Baanhn Beli was one of only 50 NGOs from around the world to be presented with a Special Award for bringing people together by “Friends of the United Nations” in New York to mark the 50th Anniversary of the UN.

Co-founder, (1993) past Chairman and presently Member, Board of Directors, Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO), working with over 1600 villages and poor urban communities in 80 districts in all four Provinces of Pakistan to build development leadership capacity, particularly amongst women.  (www.spopk.org)

Co-founder, (1982) and presently Chairman, Advisory Council, SOS Children’s Villages of Sindh offering secure homes and quality education to over 150 orphans or abandoned children in Karachi & Chairman of the Project Committee for the new, under-construction SOS Village at Jamshoro. Co-founder (1982), Pakistan National Council, United World Colleges scholarship programme through which over 150 Pakistani students have been sent for two year scholarship programmes for the international Baccalaureate to leading UWC colleges in the USA, UK, Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore. Founding chairman, South Asian Media Association, Colombo, April 1991, the first network to bring together editors, media scholars and specialists from 7 countries.  Over 50 training and thematic workshops organized.

Founding convenor, South Asian Editors’ Forum (1999), the first forum to bring together editors of indigenous language print media across South Asia.

Founding convenor, Citizens’ Media Commission of Pakistan (1997), the first independent forum to focus on media issues from a public interest perspective.  Chairman: Dr. Nasim Hasan Shah, former Chief Justice of Pakistan.  Initiated observance of “Electronic media freedom day” since 1998.

Co-founder, (2003) Karachi Chapter, Kiwanis International, a global network of humanitarian services for disadvantaged children presently operating the Down ’s syndrome early intervention and counselling centre at Karachi.

Trustee and Director, International Institute of Communications, London: first Pakistani communications specialist to be invited (1998 – 2001) to serve on the Board in one of the world’s leading communications think-tanks.
